[ Padme sighs out, and there's something heavier than she means there to be in her voice when she answers. ]

I know about Obi-Wan, yes. Ahsoka informed me immediately. It's -- difficult to think of him gone as well.

But I do not believe we are left behind with nothing, Luke. We have the memories of time we would never have had with them otherwise. New knowledge, new stories. Wisdom imparted.

No one is ever truly gone. They stay with us, always.

...until we go back ourselves and forget it all.

[ Luke let out a soft breath, falling silent for a moment. ]

Sorry, that wasn't fair.

[ There's a silence that stretches almost too long, but Padme's voice remains steady when she speaks again. ]

Does that mean that it never happened or mattered?

No, of course not.

[ Luke let out a sigh. ]

I just don't want to lose this.

I know. And I understand it.

But regardless of how it happens and how things go wrong, I am still so happy to have had the chance to know you at all. To have seen your kindness and your happiness.

I would not give that up for anything.

[ ...sorry, he needs a moment. Because what kid that never got to know his parents doesn't want to hear that? ]

...thank you, mother. That means a lot to me.

This time has meant a great deal to me as well. I'm so proud of you and your sister, Luke. Even back home, I hope someday you will be able to know just how much.

[ She clears her throat a little, tries to keep it clear. ]

Perhaps we could get lunch together sometime this week? Or do something along those lines.

I'd like that.

[ A pause. ]

Can we also get together to do some cooking again? And invite Josh?

Oh, that's a lovely idea. I'd be happy to spend time with both of you, and I'm sure Josh could teach both of us a thing or two.

I can be free most evenings, so if the two of you are able to find a time that works for you both you have simply to let me know.
