Skywalker. I have... A sensitive subject to broach with you. Can I trust in your discretion?

[ Well this was a... surprise, to put it mildly. Of all the people Luke thought would ever contact him, Akobi was very low on that list. Which meant, of course, this had to be serious, and he was taking it seriously. ]

Of course, commander. What is it?

[ Well, at least the Jedi is willing to talk to him. That's a start. Akobi chooses his words very carefully. ]

It has recently come to my attention that... Republic clone troopers were implanted with control chips in their brain, which could allow outside forces to influence their behavior and actions. We have recently determined that Imperial clone troopers also have such a chip. This information came to us from one of the Jedi present on this planet, Kanan Jarrus.

[ He pauses, unsure how to get to the point he's trying to make. ]

What I need from you, is first: did you have knowledge of such chips? [ So far, Skywalker is the least offensive Jedi Akobi has met, and he doesn't want that opinion to tarnish. ] And secondly, can you ensure that your fellow Jedi will make no move to activate these chips until they can be safely removed from both Sergeant TK-622 and Captain Rex?

[ If this had been video, the slowly dawning horror on Luke's face would have answered the question of his knowledge of the chips before he even asked. There's a soft thump from the other end as Luke fell into a chair, letting out a shaky breath before he answered. ]

I had no idea.

[ The fact any one of them, especially Kanan, knew about it and didn't say anything, made it even worse. There was another pause as Luke ran a hand over his face, his mind immediately snapping to making sure Rex and 622 would be okay. ]

I believe the best way to protect them is to ensure that their procedure is done secretly. If the others don't know you're doing it, it's unlikely they will sense anything is happening.

But should it come down to it, yes, I will make sure 622 and Rex can have those chips removed without interference.

[ Akobi can't put words to the relief he feels that at least Skywalker didn't know. That is-- if he's telling the truth. But he has no real reason to suspect the Jedi of lying, this time. So he'll choose to believe him. ]

That's exactly what I said. 622 is already making arrangements to have his removed. I can't speak for Rex, but hopefully he'll follow suit soon after.

I appreciate your confidence in keeping this matter quiet, of course.

[ Luke took a deep breath, pulling on the Force for calm, but there was a lot not to be calm about. Just... he needed to talk to his father. He needed to know if he knew, because if he did? How could he? ]

I'm from Tatooine, commander; trust me when I say I take this sort of thing very seriously.

[ He paused again, frowning to himself. There was something missing here, something that felt... not wrong, but off about the whole situation. ]

I feel like there's something important that's missing from this. Commander, with your permission, and permission from Rex and 622, I'd like the chip analyzed once it's removed. I have a friend that is not from our galaxy, and therefore not invested in our conflict. You are welcome to vet her yourself, but I believe she would be helpful in discovering the full scope of what the chip is capable of.

I'll see what I can do. I'm sure 622 will allow me to at least borrow the removed chip.

I would like to speak to this friend of yours, of course, before we do anything.
